THINGS TO REMEMBER

WEEKLY REMINDERS......

1.  Check the signup sheet/website (cherokeechicks.com) to be sure you have signed up each week.

2.  Be at the course at least a half hour before the start of play (play starts at 8:15).

3.  Each group must turn in 2 scorecards, which are checked, and must show identical scores for each hole to avoid changes being made to the totals.  Cards should include gross totals, handicap, and game score for each player in the group.

4.  Both score cards must have first initial and full last name of each player and be signed and attested (failure to do so may result in disqualification).

5.  Return to the club house immediately upon finishing last hole to complete scorecards.  The course needs the carts for subsequent golfers.

6.  Post your score in the game books on the back porch after the round.

7.  Post your score in the ghin system the day of play.  Only players who post all scores are in good standing, and are eligible for prize money.  Failure to post will result in players being ineligible for the game the following week.

8.  If you pick up on a hole that is not included in the game for the day you are NOT disqualified from the game.  If you pick up on a hole that counts in the game, you will be disqualified from the game.  You are still eligible for "chip-ins" if you are in the pot that day.

WHILE WE'RE YOUNG.....

Help everyone have a fun and enjoyable round by keeping the pace of play moving throughout the course.

Follow these guidelines:

 1.  Your place on the course is not in front of the group behind you, but behind the group in front of you!

 2.  LOAD LATER....don't take the time to replace your clubs in your bag once you leave the green...do it at the next tee.

 3.  Record your score at the next tee....not at the last green.

 4.  READY GOLF....play your ball when you're ready, not when your next.

 5.  Drop your partner at her ball and take the cart to your ball.

 6.  Line up your putt while others are putting, not when their done.

 7.  Putt out whenever possible, especially if others are waiting in the fairway.

 8.  Let a waiting threesome play through.

 9.  If you are on the tee and the foresome in front of you has cleared the green....you need to  speed up your play.

10.  Passengers should alternate teeing off first, so driver's can record the scores.

11.  If it's your turn to hit, don't help search for your partner's lost ball until after you hit.  If there is any doubt that your ball may be lost or OB off the tee, hit a provisional (be sure to announce that you are hitting a provisional and that the ball is a different make/numbered ball)

12.  When possible, park your cart so you can exit off the back of the green.

GOLF WISDOM

A golfer, now into his golden years, had a lifelong ambition to play the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verde, Fla., exactly the way the pros do it. The pros drive the ball out over the water onto the small green that is on a small spit of land. It was something the golfer had tried hundreds of times without success. His ball had always fallen short, into the water. Because of this, he never used a new ball on this particular hole. He always picked out one that had a cut or a nick, as did many other "average" golfers when negotiating very challenging holes.

Recently he went to Sawgrass to try again. When he came to the fateful hole, he teed up an old, cut ball as usual, and said a silent prayer. However, before he could hit the ball, a powerful voice from above seemed to be booming out from the clouds, saying: "Wait! Replace that old ball with a brand new one."

The golfer complied, with some slight misgivings, despite the fact that this same force seemed to be implying that he was going to finally achieve his lifelong ambition.

As he stepped up to the tee once more, the voice came down again: "Wait. Step back.

Take a practice swing."

So he stepped back and took a practice swing, certain
now that this heavenly force was going to make his dream come true. The voice boomed out again: "Take another practice swing."

Dutifully, he did. He stopped expectantly and waited ... A long silence followed ...

Then the voice again: "OK, use the old ball."
